My Samsung TL 350 has been acting up lately, so I am thinking of moving up to a larger sensor p&s. I have been looking at the original Sony RX 100 and Panasonic LF 1 ( SMALL SENSOR ) and then the LX 100 and G7X were announced. I am now leaning toward the RX 100 or the G7x, even though neither have a viewfinder. I haven' seen a full review of the G7x yet. I'm kind of waiting until I see how it compares to the original RX 100. I want to stay with a pocketable camera, so I am not considering the LX 100. I guess at the price of the G7x I should also include the RX 100 II and III in my list. Any feelings one way or the other?

The best comparison review of g7x vs RX100 M3 I saw so far is:

If it doesn't work, bing translator works too...

G7X has more range, faster lens and better controls compared RX100 series, but it has a more compromised lens also eg softer at wide open... (Both cameras depend heavily on digital corrections.) RX100 m3 has evf advantage compared to others. I guess you pick the one that has more use for yourself... Ray might give more info having used both.

Thanks for the links. The translations were kind of strange, but I got the idea on most of the article. The Sony had a little better images on some of them, but I like the idea of a longer and faster zoom. No matter which way I go, the image quality should be a step up from my Samsung TL 350 with the 1/2.3 sensor. If the Samsung weren't acting strange, I wouldn't be looking to replace it.

I've used the original RX100, but not the II or III. But what Serhan said is about right. The RX100 III has an evf. It's lens is a bit sharper in places, but within most of the overlapping focal lengths and apertures, not really, so you're more or less trading off greater capability with the G7X agains the EVF with the RX100. If you want to take more manual control of the camera, my personal feeling is that the G7X is vastly better, but that doesn't sound like it's necessarily what the OP is after. And that's totally subjective anyway, but seems to be relatively widely held opinion, at least regarding the RX100's weakness in this area...

I prefer to have more control and easier access to it.

OK, sorry - I'm getting confused between a couple of similar threads. Well, in my opinon, the RX100's controls leave a lot to be desired for people who like to work with their camera's controls. While the G7X is about as good as I could hope for in such a small camera. Obviously subjective, but that's my take on it...

I read a lot of different forums too and find it hard to remember what OP's say after reading all of the responses.
I can't wait until the full reviews come out for the Canon G7X. If the LX 100 was smaller, cheaper, and had a built in flash, I'd consider it also.

I have a love/hate relationship with my RX100 I. I love the results but I really hate the camera. The controls are bad, it lacks minimum shutter speed settings and it wants to focus on the wrong thing.

That said DOF aside, the images are stunning.
