Samsung Here is the NX1

I've been waiting to see this camera in the flesh for a while now, but unfortunately it looks like they may have $@#&ed up the screen articulation compared to the NX20 and NX30 before it. On a big DSLR styled camera the tilt-only screens are a bit half-hearted.

Apart from the NX300 this camera is the only one that looks good enough to compete in this market. To be honest with those specs it beats them hands down!! A real contender!!

If I was going to buy another APS based system, Samsung would get a very very serious look. I think Fuji might still edge them out on the basis of the number of great prime lenses they have to offer, but that Samsung 16-50 should be pretty great for zoom lovers...

We'll see how the NX1 works out but most of us are aware that Samsung has for a while offered fundamentally good cameras that have had little niggling issues. It's been a foregone conclusion that they'd get there before long. Perhaps they're there now. One thing is for sure: Samsung's lenses are just fine.

Samsung NX1 Review

Wow... They really do mean business! I'm excited about this camera. I've always found the NX cameras to have a fantastic feel in the hand (best of any camera I've handled, really; Jeff Keller seems to love the feel too), and they've always performed better than most camera enthusiasts would expect. Good to see them really commit to the sector!

I wish it weren't $2,800....those samples look great.

Yeah, $2800 for the "kit" is crazy steep, but completely expected considering the "kit" lens is the 16-50 2-2.8. The really exciting thing is the question of what lenses will Samsung produce NEXT?! They now have a pro body and a LOT of folks are taking note, but only 3 'pro' lenses (85, 16-50s, 50-150s). If they start announcing a couple of 1.4 primes on the way they could really shake up the market in a serious way!

I'm already 100% positive this camera will get reviewed more than the N30, 300, and GalaxyNX combined!

Not that I'm aware of. There're a few Schneider lenses, and Samyang / Tokina have some manual focus lenses available in NX mount, but it hasn't really been picked up quite like the other systems have...

some really strong / unnatural processing on some of these though.

Looking at the "light rays through trees" shot, everything is watercoloury... the tree bark on the trees on the right has no texture at all... same goes looking at the grass...
The portrait of the sweaty guy looks horribly overprocessed in original size. Way too much sharpening, clarity, ...
The portrait of the woman looks nicer, lots of nice detail, but also a fair bit of noise for ISO 200.

Ah well, it's beta samples. Most cameras beta samples aren't showing off a cameras full potential.

I really wanted to like the Samsungs. They made the right lenses, and most of their camera bodies felt "right". Except for the NX100. Which unfortunately is the one I once bought (and hated). Had they offered the next generation bodies as body only option I might have stuck with Samsung. But they wanted to sell another kit lens, so I went the other way and never looked back :)

I wish Samsung had put TWO processors in it, like the Canon 7d uses. One processor strictly for AF, the other for image processing. A mirrorless that could truly challenge a high end dslr AF?? ;)
