Number 2 in what might become a series of Dartmoor in mono images.

A morning when I carried some camera gear on my Wheatear survey, and concentrated more on the photography rather than the Wheatears

In the distance is Ditsworthy Warren House, rapidly becoming a favourite location

This standing stone is at the north eastern end of Ditsworthy Warren stone row, at least 15 feet tall, where's a pony when you need one (to show the height)

The stone at the other end of the row is not as tall, perhaps a mere 10 feet!

Barry, when - what century - do you think that "mere" 10 foot tall stone was set up there? Mind boggling...woven ropes...cattle pulling...??

Wonderfully dramatic images. I know I'd fall in love with Dartmoor.

BB, some time in the Bronze age, which stretched from 3300 BC to 1200BC, divided into the Early, Middle and Late Bronze ages, so I can't pin it down any better than that! They obviously didn't do that good a job, the web site Drizzlecombe Stone Rows - Stone Rows, Standing Stones, Cairns and Cist - Ditsworthy Warren, Dartmoor, Devon mentions that it had to be re-erected in the 19th century! The 15 foot stone is apparently the largest on the moor.
