Nikon First Impressions of my Canadian-sourced V2

I was the fortunate winner of a New Open Box V2 kit with the 10-30mm lens in an auction from Henry's in Canada, at the screaming great price of $385 + $25 shipping. The camera arrived today. My first impressions: It's noticeably lighter than my V1. It's also MUCH more straightforward to operate - really seems a lot closer to how an enthusiast DSLR operates than the V1 did. I found that I had to really adapt my shooting style to the idiosyncrasies of the V1. I don't find any need for that with the V2 - It's much more amenable to being set up exactly the way I used to shoot with my Nikon DSLRs.

Also, unlike the V1 it DOESN'T have an undefeatable forced review of the previous shot you took before you can take the next one in single shot mode. This is a huge improvement, IMHO.

IMHO, If Nikon had delivered this camera as the initial enthusiast body for the Nikon 1 system, rather than the V1, and had it come out at $600-700 for the body, and $800 or so for the kit with lens, they would have saved themselves LOTS of grief in terms of nasty bad reviews

You got a great deal. I think it would be worth it just to be able turn off image review.
I think that's the biggest pet peeve with my J1.

That's an excellent price. My friend has J1 and the AF is quite impressive. I checked out the V2 on Camerasize and it's much smaller than it looks.

In fact. the size is very analogous to taking a typical pocketable point and shoot, and slapping a big chunky EVF unit on it, and a massive aftermarket battery grip. But the main body of the camera remains the size of that typical pocketable point and shoot, but with those two large protrusions.

And it was an excellent price, for a basically New In Box (albeit an open box) camera with a Canadian warranty. I was shocked that nobody besides me put in a late snipe bid on it. I had actually snipe-bid up to $401 + shipping, and didn't even expect to win it at price (the prior earlier bid was $375, which it had been at for at least a day before). I was shocked and pleased that the winning bid came in at $385. It ended up going for about $50 less than very good condition used kits are typically going for on ebay (which has been around $450 to $475 all in).
