Looks like a pretty sweet body, but I imagine the price will kill it for me. I wouldn't mind paying a premium for a camera with a one inch sensor, but it then has to become my primary camera, and the lenses just aren't there to support that.

I'll reserve judgement until I see how the new sensor pans out. The V2 handles awesome and was one of my favorite mirrorless bodies, despite the somewhat ugly design. I don't know how Nikon is going to compete at this price point though especially with so many good mirrorless cameras and even Nikon's own DSLRs!

I hope they enabled the ability to meter and focus confirm legacy glass.
At this price point It better have that ability, to compete.
Im thinking the price will market adjust down to a grand after Its out awhile.
We shall see. Im really looking foward to seeing some test results from the v3.

20 fps with af!
i dont have a need for even HALF that.. but i sorta want one just to create a need for it! "quick try to run me over with yer horse and then leap over me.. i want photos of the whole thing!"

Hmmmm... nope. Or, should I say... maybe... but I would only get it if I could shift my others on the marketplace and they werent popular enough for that. Cannot afford to let them go for a song. So.. in a couple of years, maybe.

Maybe Sue ? You know how we feel about external EVF's !

I thought you'd be saving your money for that new $1000 70-300 zoom.

Nah, over external EVFs. Use the screen if its good.

Nah, not that either. I want a new iPhone before that, and its going to be a big capacity one, so all camera purchasing (and fridge and washing machine purchasing, though I did get a new vac cleaner this week) will be waiting quite a long time. To be absolutely honest, for what I am not doing with photography of late... its of no consequence. What I have is as good at not shooting as anything else might be :)

Interesting... 70-300 makes it nice for birding, but pricey compared to regular dslr 70-300 lenses, weight is close, length is shorter esp w/ internal focusing, most probably w/ better IQ. Specs:

Minimum focus 1.00 m (39.37″)
Focus method Internal
Weight 560 g (1.23 lb)
Diameter 73 mm (2.87″)
Length 108 mm (4.25″)
Filter thread 62 mm

Am I missing something here?

It strikes me you're paying a lot of $$$ for a native mount lens. Of course, given the fast AF of the Nikon 1 bodies, you may want that.

I don't know how the speed compared w/ Nikon 70-300mm dslr lens, at least it will be silent and maybe faster w/ 20fps. Here is the size w/ camera, a little tight for fingers:

I suppose if the improved PDAF of this new Nikon 1 V3 really does deliver DSLR-like autofocus in both good and poor light, all bets are off. But I can't help but brace myself for the inevitable product crippling that Nikon has a long history of in order to protect its DSLR business.

810mm in a small package w/ decent sized sensor. Impressive. Even better if the V3's CAF is as at least on part with something like a Canon 7D.

$1200 looks steep even w/ grip and EVF. EM1 is $1400 w/o the need of an extra grip and w/ built-in EVF (but no kit zoom). GX7's are $800.

AF of the V1 in good light was wicked good...better than any other mirrorless by yards, and as good as a good DSLR. Tried using the Nikon 70-300 VR with the FT-1 adapter-images were too soft on the long end for the money spent. Returned it. Native glass should be better, but dang that's expensive, says the guy that's paid more for a single prime....
