Nikon Nikon 1 V2

So has anyone tried the V2? I know that the majority of buzz about the V1 started after the fire sale pricing, so I imagine the V2 being priced way back up the scale again has kept most everyone from trying it.

It looks better ergonomically than the V1, and has more direct control points, which is great. But I'm not seeing what would justify a move. Any opinions?

I have a V1 and FT1 etc., never really been a fan - although others rave about it

I bought it because of the FT1 ability to use Nikon lens and the 2 x extra range you get.
plus battery compatibility with the D7100

If I were buying one to use as a SC, I would not bother

so although I have always been a Nikon fan, it gets a "thumbs" down from me

I agree with Bill, the larger battery, alone is reason enough to keep me from the V2.

And theres a V3 rumour. Maybe there will be a firesale on all the V2s that nobody wants. I won't be getting one though, even though I do like the Nikon 1 system. What I have is all I will have, I suspect.

I like the V1 a lot. Great lenses, very small system (though not pocketable, of course).

Things common to both cameras:

- Great IQ, especially in good light.
- Nikon lenses are sharp.
- Auto-focus is very fast and assured.
- Silent shutter option (nice for school plays, performances)
- Nikon adapter allows 2x crop of APS-C auto-focus Nikon mount lenses (great for long-reach OIS lenses such as Tamron 18-270mm )

I've heard the V2 has not increased image quality substantially. But a few things among many that you might like on the V2 over the V1:

- max 6400 ISO vs 3200
- electronic shutter at 1/16000 second (mechanical 1/4000)
- built-in grip better for larger lenses
- built-in flash
- got rid of the way-too-easily bumped stills-to-movie mode wheel on the back (this is a big plus)
- put mode wheel up-top.

Price has come down on the V2, but price is still a big factor on which camera to buy.

Tangentially, I was very interested in the Sony RX10, until I remembered I had almost the same camera in the V1 with the 10-100mm lens mounted.

If there is a V3 ... Nikon will have to do much to make me want to switch to it!

Thanks for the replies. Kind of what I thought: No compelling reason to shell out for the V2. I am curious to see what the 3 may bring. What I'd really like to see is a crazy sale on the 32/1.2.

The V1 also goes to 1/16000 with its electronic shutter. And 1/4000 mechanical
Not that 1/16000 is really used much with a kit lens in the far north of England !
A clear Mid summers day on the North Pole with the 32 mm might .
