Nelson Mandela died today

Thank you for posting.

He was getting up there, but it's still a sad day. There was a song called "Free Nelson Mandela" in the '80s. That was the first time I learned what apartheid was (or even where South Africa was). A soldier of conscience.

Took this earlier this year near the London Palace of Westminster. A great man.
 
Food for thought, isn't paying homage to a political figure (especially a controversial one that evokes a wide range of emotional reactions) a political commentary in itself?

Yes, it is.

I'll say, though, that I started this thread merely to inform. My description of Mandela as a "titan of our time" is, I think, an unassailable viewpoint, from both those who revere him and those who hate him.

Also, he was a photogenic dude. (y)
