Adobe Black Friday Deal with PS CC and LR5

Hmmmmmm, sounds great initially, the link says

"Adobe says this is the ongoing price for anyone who signs up by 9am PT December 2, 2013. So if you join in November 2013, then if/when you renew in November 2014, the price will still be $9.99 per month. They do not have plans to change this price.

In other words, this is not an introductory rate, it is the standard price for customers who sign up by December 2nd. Internationally, the monthly cost is £7.14 GBP, €9.99 EUR, A$9.99 AUD, and ¥1,000 JPY (all prices are exclusive of VAT/local taxes)"

but adobe says this on the sign up page

"Renewal ......The price is valid for a full 12 months. After that, we'll renew your contract automatically, at the then-current price of the offering, unless you cancel. The price is subject to change, but we will always notify you beforehand."

rather different if my reading is correct. That said, I may still sign up and cancel if price increases dramatically....but I just thought I would warn before those in pinched circumstances are tempted.

Agreed Pete. The first statement on pricing is the editors' word choice. The second is Adobe's official statment. Clearly they can change the pricing in a year.

Tempted, as I've not upgrade to 5, and I think my wife would like some of the website tools. I've also never tried PS proper.

edit -- oops missed that this is ONLY PS and LR. Think I'll just stick with LR4 and maybe upgrade to 5 (to own, not to rent) later.

I'm in. The purchase site worked this morning. I've got Elements 8- which Windows is going to quit supporting any version now, you know it will, and I've been intending to save up for Lightroom. I figure I can get my feet wet this way, put money back anyway and if Adobe ups the price next year cancel out of this and buy a "static" lightroom. Also, plan B, I'm hoping to learn The Gimp this year too.

I don't know what most of this stuff is - I suspect it might be for gaming writing - but here are the "apps" you can install for the ten bucks a month:
Photoshop CC
Lightroom 5
Bridge CC
Edge Animate CC
Edge Code Cc (Preview)
Edge Inspect CC
Edge Reflow CC (Preview)
Exchange Panel for Cs6 Apps
Extendscript Toolkit CC
Extension Manager CC
Gaming SDK 1.3
Scout Cc
Touch App plugins

It's downloading slower than molasses in January - that moved at about 35 mph on Jan 15, 1919 during the Molasses Disaster in Boston - so I'm going to head out to Peoria and get my camera back from some serious cleaning. Great Molasses Flood - Wikipedia

What happens if you terminate your subscription? Lose the right to use the apps? I might be tempted for a year but no more than that.

Yes. You won't be able to open anything saved in Photoshops psd-format.
And you won't be able to access and tweak any photos you've done in Lightroom.

You'll be left with the final exported work of that year (saved as tiff, jpg, etc.).
But you won't be able to go back and tweak anything, unless you re-subscribe (which can be done on a monthly basis too).

I have very few files except jpegs and I don't really know how to use The Gimp or Irfanview, let along lightroom, and I'm up past my bedtime. And of course, at this point what I DO have on hand is Elements 8 (and the more I see of other programs, the more I love the way Elements 8 organizes!) I'm figuring if you decide to buy Lightroom after the year is out, you should be able to go back and tweak your DNGs. The Gimp just opened up a PSD and has layers, but they are NOT intuitive. Irfanview opened up a NEF file, I need to find it or make it a DNG. I work Friday and Saturday, but I'll make a determined effort to see what they'll do on Sunday. sorry if I'm incoherent, it's been a long day.

yes, some programs will open PSDs to a certain degree, but I'm sure some advanced features won't be supported, e.g. smart objects, ... (which may not be an issue for you).

If you're mostly interested in creating a photo and be done with it (without going back and changing old stuff) then this subscription model is probably as good as anything else.

I'm not sure what I will do. I've been using Photoshop for about 15 years now. Tried the Gimp a while ago and didn't like it at all... Will keep looking I guess...

Right. Well, I know I would not be able to sustain it indefinitely even at $10 a month so its a no go for me. I'll make do with what I have.

This deal is good until December 31 now. I just got it yesterday, as I have never had a current version of Photoshop, and the price of LR5 would have been about half the prescription price if I bought it on sale.

As long as you have your original raw files and some raw converter you should not lose anything by stopping. Getting rid of Lightroom should not remove your image folders, only Lightrooms catalog of them. But I've still got CS2 and Lightroom 4 if I decide to cancel within 30 days. (After that they will charge you 50% of the remaining subscription price.)

I signed up for this deal. Seemed too good to miss. Unfortunately Lightroom is so slow on my PC it is easier and quicker to just use ACR and import into CS6. So if you are considering upgrading then you may have to upgrade your PC soon after! Still I've been dragging my heels with regard to my PC performance (Core 2 duo) and a motherboard bundle and SSD drive are long overdue..
