My RX100 seems prone to clipping highlights. I realise that this is partly due to user error however can somebody please advise as to how best reduce highlight clipping.

Thank you.

If you're shooting Raw, then just set exposure compensation to under-expose by, say, 2/3 to one stop, and lift the shadows in post. You might want to experiment with how much to under-expose, and you might need to vary it, according to the shooting conditions. Experience will be your guide.

The Raw files from the RX100 are reasonably forgiving - especially for a small(ish) sensor camera. Hope this helps.

Even when shooting jpg I find it often helps to under-expose by 2/3 stop. I've configured the RX100 front ring to control exposure compensation, so that's easy to do in aperture priority mode.

It has a lot more DR in RAW than jpg, so I always shoot RAW unless I'm using one of the special effects modes that require jpg

I do not experience such issue with RX100. But if you do, as others have suggested, shooting RAW & under expose -2/3 would certainly solve the problem. The RX100 is very good at retaining shadow details.

Funny, I've been doing that point and sky trick for years using compact cameras. Works great. Then I started to shoot +/- 7 brackets. Now I also underexpose by 1 stop. I find that the pictures look better.

The difference between jpeg and raw is quite considerable with this camera. To get the best out of its sensor, raw shooting is a "must".
