Staving the cold nights off, Danish style

It's hovered close to freezing the last few nights here in Southern Oregon, and the relatively new Morso wood stove is doing its thing - and burning madrone and oak hardwood to heat the old farmhouse where I live. Normally, the doors to the wood stove stay closed, for efficient heating - but opening them gives a rather cool effect -

My house is 111 years old this year, and I imagine there have been many nights before when burning wood kept its inhabitants warm. Kind of comforting in a way, that sense of tradition.
