Fuji New Rumor: Fuji X-E1s

See that's the advantage of being quite a bit older: one becomes so slow that the cameras appear faster, lol. The X-E1 is fast enough on firmware 2.0 for me but I think the main innovation of the X-E1S will be the phase detect autofocus system. But I'm sure it will have a faster processor as well.

Hey, John... I missed you picking up the X-E1! Where have I been? Congratulations.

Seems really odd that the XE1 would get an major update before the flagship X-Pro?? Makes me wonder what their long term direction is with this line...

I'm not going to go find it, but I know I saw a graphic on one of these rumor sites that linked to a Fuji slide showing that the XE1 was their biggest seller, so I wouldn't be surprised that they keep the momentum going on that line. I don't think Fuji is aiming just for a niche move here. I think they want to be THE mirrorless system of choice.

Could be, and it wouldn't be shocking for them to put more eggs in that basket, but the OVF in the X-Pro and X100/100s has always been the most compelling part of the Fuji line to me. So I'd hate to see that getting less emphasis. I know it only works well with a somewhat narrow range of an expanding lens line, but if it just becomes an also ran in the system, I'll personally lose that much more interest in the system than I have already...

Sounds like it might not be a system for you at any rate?? (at least as currently formulated)

I don't think they'll abandon the XP line, but if the XE1 is already a big seller, fixing it's quirks are more likely to bust the system open more widely than fixing the XP2, which is more targeted and specialized, IMO (given it's bigger size and OVF)

edit: Armanius could also be right (below) that they could just rethink the XP2??

maybe it takes time to build all those new FF lens to go with the new FF X-ProII? :flypig:

there was a poll on the fujirumors site showing the x-e1 being the most popular choice.

Yeah, I'll be the odd man out I guess and say I'm not that compelled if it's really a rehash of the X100S sensor tech -> X-E1.

At one point I would have been excited, but honestly owning X100S side by side with X-E1 I'm just not feeling the "magic" in the X-Trans II and phase detect compared against the X-E1 with latest FW. I guess we'll see what else the X-E1s offers.

So far this is all just whetting my appetite for an eventual X-Pro2 :D

Not surprising that the X-E1 would be the best selling Fuji camera, same as Canon Rebels would outsell their bigger, more expensive brothers, and so on. Lower end models usually get more frequent updates too so that remain "new" and fresh in buyer's minds. Who knows, maybe before too long the X-M1 might become the highest seller in Fujiland

This is one of or maybe the most compelling part indeed, but it's nearly the only really essential difference between the X-E1 and the X-Pro1, a difference, which one has to pay a lot for. It's quite obvious to me that only few want to pay that much more for an OVF and that the X-E1 is selling so much better.

About once every 3 months, my brain decides it's "Give The OVF A Chance Again Day." Normal shooting for me with the X100 is 98% EVF, 2% LCD when I have to hold it away from my body. So I flick the switch and go optical... At first I think "oh this is nice, so bright and instant." Then I half-shutter to focus, and I get this little sinking pit of doubt in my gut that maybe it didn't focus where I want it to. Then I get another nagging doubt about exposure comp, because I tend to shoot -1/3 a lot, somehow preferring a bit more shadow than highlight, and without a preview I'm not really sure what the effect will look like.

I make it about 10 shots each time and then go running for the comfort and safety of the EVF. It feels like a warm bath, every time.

And I am 100% sure I will try to OVF again. It's like that can of coke I want every 3 or 4 weeks... At ounce 2 and 3, I think "this is awesome I want more!" By ounce 10 I think "my teeth are furry and I feel like crap and I'm never doing this again." And yet I do.
