Hey guys,

first of, i would like to do a shameless self promotion plug, but i finally uploaded my website and blog so please go check it out at Chris Leskovsek Photo and let me know what you guys think!.

Now onto the topic,

On saturday i had to go shoot Canadian Punk/Rock duo Japandroids for a local magazine-website. I have never seen em live before, but it was a great chance to test and try my new lens, the Voigtlander 25mm f0.95.

So i was going to shoot "action" with a Manual focus lens, on a camera that doesnt have focus peaking (OMD), in low light...yup! :2thumbs: isnt this all about having fun?

I gotta say im totally in love with this lens. It has "character" all that "3d" bla bla bla crap everyone talks about and brings some full frame dof-ness into micro four thirds!. Also the built quality is simply the best built piece of glass for this format. maybe par on par with the O75. is just metal and glass. no plastic whatsoever. Its cold and heavy. but not big. Is "longer" than my p25 but "thinner" than my P25, does it make sense?.

Also had my Ricoh GR for wide angle shots and zone focusing as that camera doesnt focus nice in low light. I had no problem.

anyway,

here are some images from that night!.

Great shots, Chris! I bet that was super tough to nail with MF on the OM-D.

Japandroids are pretty fun live, eh? I saw them here at 7th Street Entry, which is the small stage/bar at First Avenue. Packed, hot, and they were super high energy.

Thanks Kyle! No, it was not that hard to nail the focus with the OMD, obviously i missed a few, but not more that i would have lost with the P25 under those light conditions really. I did the fake "focus peaking" trick to help me out.

Yeah Japandroids are fun live, a lot of energy, i love the straight in your face kinda atittude. Plus the place were they played sounds pretty much like the bar were you saw them.

those shots are absolutely kinetic! Nice work!

Thanks Luke! it was a loud, sweaty, hot, show. fun!

Definitely know the name, and I'm sure I'd recognise some of their stuff if I heard it playing.

Great energy in these pics!

Thats cool Nick!, they were good live. Im glad you liked the photos! :)

Interesting point versus the P25... were you running mostly wide open with the Voigtlander then? Impressive to nail focus that well!.

Oh yeah, and curious to know where you where you were trying to keep the shutter speed at for this kind of show?

Cool shots Chris, and I know exactly what you mean about the CV 25mm. Such an incredible lens!

I once said it would probably be the last lens I ever sold but I actually just put mine up on amazon today. Hard to part with it because it's such a beautiful piece of glass and metal, but I am not shooting with m4/3 as much these days, and I prefer 35mm equivalent nowadays. Voigtlander makes great, great, glass and I am sure I will own another lens from them eventually! :)

Well Kyle, the whole point of getting the V25 is to shoot it wide open. but no, i shot some at f2.8 but yes i believe the ones here and the ones in my blog are wide open or at f1.2

since the lens is so bright, i was shooting manual at iso 800 and 1600 and my shutter was all from 1/60 up to 1/250 or even 1/500 at some point due to the strong colored lights.

I loved shooting mine at f/1.4 or so, it was already pretty crazy sharp by then and nice and fast. But hey, you gotta use the f/0.95 at least some of the time, right? :D

Thanks Jay!, yes an amazing piece of glass!!!.

I might be getting some of the others as well!. really happy with it!. Hows fuji doing for you?

Cool, if I stayed deeper into m4/3 I'd probably swap mine for the 17.5mm just for the wider FOV. I have tried both but at the time I purchased mine I was really into the 50mm equivalent (figured that'd never change, goes to show what I know!).

Fuji is good - still keeping my 'essential' m4/3 kit for now, but selling off the "specialty" lenses and going more Fuji. I really hope Voigtlander releases a lens or two for the X mount! I've thought about getting the 21mm f/1.8 M-mount and adapting it but I prefer native lenses.
