Fuji X100: Portrait with jelly donut at Hanukkah

Regular
Quick snap at a Hanukkah meal... menorah lit in background, jelly donut stuffed into mouth. Is there more to life?

Scroll down to see crop of image as well.

X100 @ f/2, 1/60, ISO 500. EF-20 bounced off ceiling.

And here is a crop to see the insanely good sharp details. Certainly clean enough for me at ISO 500...

the photo is good.....the thread title is freaking awesome. Also.....didn't realize the EF-20 tilted.

Ha - yes. Jelly donuts galore. Anyway, yes the EF-20 does tilt. I think it's a great flash that doesnt get much credit. I had the newer EF-X20, which has same GN rating, but smaller. That one doesnt tilt and I foudn it provided very harsh lighting, even with flash EV at -1.

For my EF-20, I usually set it at EV -0.5 directly on the unit, and bounce off ceiling. Stofen makes a diffuser that fits right on top of it as well.

Here is another with EF-20, same evening, but in a much dimmer part of the room than the first photo. IE, first photo was at 1/60 ISO 500 but this one kept at 1/60 forced Auto ISO to dial up to ISO 1000 (!) . This child's eyes are dark, so whereas the first had blue-grey eyes and thus appears more immediately striking, yet this one allows you to linger for a moment and the crucialness (imho) of the catchlights due to EF-20 in her eyes. Without the EF-20, I think this picture would be much 'flatter'.

1. Those jelly donuts look awesomely delicious.
2. The photos - especially the crops - are wonderful, the kind a family wants to keep forever. The one with the boy is an all-timer.
3. I also love freckles.

Thanks - yes, the donuts were delicious. The X100 continues to amaze me (makes me wonder why I was a moron and sold my first one before re-buying one).

The crops are so insanely good for my purposes. Mind you, I have a few kids, so I've become a 'lazy' photographer the past few years. Thus, clean crops and high quality images from a portable camera are HUGE. :)
